Reading the Market: How Lefa Lesapo Built BONABUY
A Midrand-born luxury brand, made accessible — shaped by years of hands-on retail experience and a sharp eye for what the market was missing.
Some founders start with a big pitch deck and a leap of faith. Lefa Lesapo started with years of experience — and built BONABUY from what that experience taught him. Behind the neat shelves of tissue oils, body lotions, and 55ml perfume bottles carrying his BONABUY label is a founder who knew the market inside and out before he ever launched a brand of his own.
Lefa, 40, born on 10 June 1986 in Botshabelo, Free State, and now based in Midrand, Gauteng, brings a genuinely experienced perspective to the fragrance and lifestyle industry. Before founding BONABUY, he spent years as a reseller of established perfume brands — working directly with customers, learning retail pricing and demand, and developing a sharp read on exactly where the market had room to improve. That commercial expertise is the real foundation BONABUY is built on.
A Market Insight, Turned Into a Brand
That experience gave Lefa a clear, informed view of the market. Genuine luxury was often priced out of reach, while more affordable options rarely delivered the quality or sophistication customers deserved. Few brands were serving that space with real elegance — so Lefa built one that would.
BONABUY was created to bring luxury within reach — premium perfumes, skincare, and lifestyle products crafted with the same elegance and sophistication as high-end brands, priced for real accessibility. The mission is simple: deliver a refined, lasting luxury experience, without the luxury price tag.
Where BONABUY Stands Today
What stands out most about Lefa's journey is how deliberately he has grown the brand. Today, BONABUY has expanded into a diverse luxury product line including perfumes, tissue oils, and enriched body lotions, with more in development. He's built a loyal customer base and continues to refine his branding, packaging, and promotional visuals to make sure every product reflects the premium standard BONABUY is known for.
That same strategic approach runs through how the brand engages its customers directly. Lefa built a small, sharp team that now represents BONABUY at pop-ups and activations across Gauteng — always professional, always presentable, always on brand.
It's this direct, expertise-driven approach that separates BONABUY from brands that exist only on a screen. Lefa built trust the most reliable way possible — in person, product in hand, backed by years of knowing exactly what he's talking about. That kind of credibility doesn't come from an ad campaign. It's earned through experience.
Where the Craft Was Sharpened
To complement his market experience with formal technical grounding, Lefa studied through the South African Perfumery and Cosmetics Training Institution (SAPACTI), sharpening the craft behind what his years in retail had already taught him. It's a strategic move that says a lot about how he operates: even with a brand already gaining traction, he invested in formal training so that BONABUY's quality could stand behind its price point, backed by genuine expertise from both sides of the business.
The Vision Ahead
Lefa isn't building BONABUY to stay small. His long-term goal is to establish BONABUY as a household name across Africa and beyond — synonymous with quality, affordability, and innovation. He speaks about growing it into a genuine global lifestyle brand, offering a wide range of products while maintaining a firm commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction.
Given the depth of market knowledge and strategic thinking that got him this far — from years of retail experience to a full product range with its own identity — it's a strong bet that he'll get there.
